The Dallas Mavericks announced their partnership with 5miles on Tuesday, becoming the 21st team in the NBA to have a sponsorship, which includes a logo patch on the front of the team’s uniforms, according to Brad Townsend of Dallas News.
Created in 2015, 5miles, a buy-and-sell app company based in Dallas, will now be the official jersey-patch sponsor for the Dallas Mavericks for the remainder of the current season along with the next two campaigns:
Per NBA regulations, the maximum contract length per patch-sponsor agreement is three seasons, although the Mavericks-5miles agreement, like others around the league, includes clauses that could lead to a contract extension if the league decides to continue forward with sponsor patches.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban spoke on the team’s new partnership:
“We’re lucky to partner with a locally based company that is innovative and growing exponentially.”
5miles CFO Garwin Chan spoke on the class of the Dallas Mavericks organization, despite this agreement coming two weeks to the day after the release of a Sports Illustrated investigation that surfaced the harassment and misogyny by former employees of the franchise:
“Honestly, whatever information we’ve learned is through the medias, as well. I think some of these incidents that were mentioned were definitely before our time and probably before a lot of people’s times within the Mavs organization.
“What we are comfortable with is, based on our interaction and our experience working with Mark and his team, they’re been nothing but a world-class organization so far. So from everything that I understand, also assurances that the Mavs organization has given to us, they’re doing everything they can do to investigate exactly what happened and also put in place best practices. And we’re completely supportive of them.”
