The Tennessee Titans may have eked out a three-point win against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, but the Dallas Cowboys were the biggest winners of the night. At the cost of the 49ers enduring their seventh loss of the season, the Cowboys clinched their first playoff berth since 2018.
With an 8-1 conference record and a three-game lead in the NFC East, the Cowboys are now mathematically unable to fall below the seventh seed in the NFC. Now, Dallas can look ahead toward clinching the NFC East.
This week, Dak Prescott and company can win their division by defeating the Washington Football Team on Sunday. The Cowboys can also win the division if the Philadelphia Eagles lose to the New York Giants.
“We all understand that we need to get this next game and we know what our NFC record is (8-1) and all those things,” Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday.
“At the end of the day, we have to take care of what’s in front of us. We’ve got three NFC games and all are excellent opponents that are also fighting. To me, I think it’s a good place to be.”
The Cowboys have not won the division and made the playoffs since 2018. Ultimately, they lost to Rams in the Divisional Round by eight points.
The #DallasCowboys officially clinched a playoff berth thanks to San Francisco's 20-17 loss to Tennessee on Thursday night.
