DaBaby faces a new lawsuit after an incident in Tampa, Florida where he allegedly smacked a woman across the face.
The North Carolina rapper, who recently had battery charges dropped, finds himself in more hot water. DaBaby is being sued by a young woman who claims his forceful strike caused damage. Pitchfork reports Tyronesha Laws is suing DaBaby for battery, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Laws is seeking $30,000 in damages for not only physical injuries but mental and emotional woes.
Laws claims that in addition to face and head injuries, she has received a number of threats on social media.
“Morgan & Morgan has filed a formal lawsuit against DaBaby relating to the incident in Tampa. The incident was outrageous and shocking. We have requested a jury trial and look forward to presenting all of the surrounding circumstances to a jury of our client’s peers. Our goal is to deter similar conduct in the future and send a message that this type of behavior is not tolerated in America” says Matt Morgan and Chelsea Cromer, legal team for Tyronesha Laws.
After the video of DaBaby hitting the young woman went viral, the “Suge” rapper took to social media to explain his side of the story and offer an apology. DaBaby claims his forceful swing was a reaction to being hit himself. According to DaBaby, he was hit in the eye and was unaware his defense was against a woman due to a bright phone flash.
“Just zoom in instead of popping me in the motherfu**in’ eye with the phone. But I do apologize that there was a female on the other end” said DaBaby on the explanatory Instagram story post.
DaBaby continues his ascension to hip-hop superstardom, recently appearing on tracks with Lil Yachty and Drake as well as DaniLeigh.
