In a sport that features some of the greatest athletes in the world and some of the best success stories from rags to riches, perhaps no one has been as inspiring as the person covering it. Craig Sager has been a beacon of light as he has publicly battled against cancer.
Deservedly, Sager’s work for more than two decades as a broadcaster and sideline reporter will be honored at the highest level. The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame, consisting of major American media companies, will now feature the legendary NBA personality:
Sager’s presence has become synonymous with big-time NBA basketball (not to mention with unique style). As a sideline reporter for the NBA on TNT for nearly two decades, he has earned the respect of players, coaches, and viewers. He previously hosted Atlanta Hawks telecasts for TBS Superstation and was a reporter on TNT’s NFL pregame, halftime, and postgame from 1990 to ’97.
Among the other personalities to be inducted with Sager on December 13 are Robin Roberts and Verne Lundquist.
But as usual, no one will be as big of a star as Craig Sager. I’m expecting another patented colorful suit and another inspirational speech from one of the best people around the NBA.
Congratulations, Sages.
