Condé Nast has reportedly filed a $4 million lawsuit against Drake and 21 Savage. The legal dispute reportedly stems from the production of a faux magazine cover resembling one of Condé Nast’s key media properties, Vogue.
On November 4, Drake and 21 Savage released their highly anticipated joint LP, Her Loss. Instead of promoting the project through traditional streams of press, the duo has taken an unconventional route. Over the last week, the two have released performances mimicking Saturday Night Live, COLORS and several other platforms. In addition, the duo has produced a deep fake interview with Howard Stern and a fake edition of Vogue with the two Grammy winners on the cover.
“Me and my brother on newsstands tomorrow! Thanks, Vogue Magazine and Anna Wintour for the love and support on this historic moment,” Drake wrote on Instagram as he shared the cover.
As it turns out, Drake may not have gotten permission from Wintour or Vogue. A report from TMZ suggests Condé Nast has “not endorsed [Her Loss] in any way.” Additionally, Condé Nast and Vogue have reportedly asked Drake and 21 Savage several times to remove all promos featuring the magazine’s name. Now, the media entity is seeking $4 million in damages. Drake nor 21 Savage have issued a statement regarding the matter, but TMZ reports that the Toronto artist is “surprised and confused” by the legal move.
