Last month, Eddie Murphy announced that he was indeed working on a sequel to the 1988 film, Coming To America. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Kenya Barris of Black-ish would write the script and Craig Brewer of Hustle & Flow would direct the film. Finally, we learned that Paramount Pictures would lead the production.
After announcing the film, Eddie Murphy said, “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward.” He later added, “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
Today, Paramount Pictures revealed more information about the impending sequel. The Coming To America sequel will be released on August 7th 2020. In addition, other reports have suggested that Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos and Shari Headley may be returning to the film as it begins production later this year. As for the plot, there is no word on what the sequel will focus on or where the story will take place.
More details regarding the film will be reported as they become available.
