Charles Barkley may be looking to expand his media presence to a new outlet under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella of networks — CNN.
Dylan Byers of Puck News has reported that CNN is looking to pair Gayle King and Charles Barkley together for a primetime show. At this time, it is unclear what topics the show would address or how often it would air. In response to Byers’ report, CNN said that the network is experimenting with a number of different possibilities to ramp up its programming moving forward.
“[CNN CEO] Chris [Licht] is having conversations with dozens of culturally relevant individuals from the worlds of news, sports, entertainment and comedy,” the statement reads.
In an interview with Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Barkley didn’t shy away from the topic. According to the former NBA star, he has been presented with the possibility of hosting a show for CNN, but he has not committed to anything in an official capacity.
“They are trying to pair Gayle King and me,” Barkley said.
“We don’t have anything set in stone. I’m only considering it because of my respect for Gayle.”
Barkley has a lengthy relationship with CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. The former NBA star has worked as an analyst on CNN’s sister property, TNT, since 2000. Last year, he signed a 10-year extension with Inside The NBA that locks him in as one of the show’s co-hosts for the foreseeable future.
