Not long ago, tens of thousands of fans crowded the stage in Washington, D.C. as No Malice and Pusha T shared the stage at Something In The Water. At the time, Pusha T was promoting his most recent studio album, It’s Almost Dry, and he stopped by Hot 97 to speak with Ebro Darden and Peter Rosenberg. During their conversation, he talked about their recent collaboration, “Punch Bowl,” and said that he had been pushing his brother to do another album.
“You know me, I’m pressing for an album,” Pusha T said.
“I’m pressing. I mean, he’s just chilling, he’s not pressing. I do have the, like, ‘Little brother, I can ask you to do things,’ thing. So, that’s how I got these. And it just made sense, you know, the Nigo thing. He was there. I was particular about it [being credited as Clipse]. I just want him to see that.”
Two years later, it looks like he’s gotten his wish. He and No Malice recently opened up about their new album while speaking with Craig Jenkins of Vulture.
“I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo. I think this is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated. This is a high taste-level piece of work. You can only have that level of taste when you have the fundamentals down to a science. I think it’s been definitely missing. Then there’s the competitive aspect,” Pusha T said when asked about the project.
“This is smart basketball. It’s fundamentals. And not only that, it’s authenticity. It’s what rap should look like if you’re real about your craft, real about your experience, real about your storytelling. It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate. It just seems like in other genres of music, they have the luxury of growing. For some reason, we act like we’re not supposed to evolve. This is what the true evolution of the Clipse looks like. It’s just good to be able to show that and still have high-level raps,” No Malice added.
There’s no release date for the album just yet, but news of the first Clipse album in 15 years is more than enough to keep fans happy for now.
