Global Health Corps Co-Founder Barbara Bush has been outspoken in her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, but her father, former President George W. Bush, has elected not to be as verbal in his support of either major party candidate hoping to sit in the Oval Office.
“President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago,” the office of the former President said when asked if he would endorse Harris or former President Donald Trump.
Bush’s decision not to endorse either major party candidate has drawn criticism and questioning from many, including the eldest daughter of his former running mate, Dick Cheney.
“I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out, but I think it’s time, and I wish that he would,” Liz Cheney told The New Yorker.
During a recent interview with CNN, former President Bill Clinton defended Bush’s decision not to endorse a candidate during the current election cycle.
“First of all, he’s spoken up, I think, more than he’s gotten credit for, and he takes every opportunity that I’ve seen to talk about how important immigration is and how we can’t survive without it,” Clinton said.
Despite not getting an endorsement from Bush, Harris has managed to sweep the endorsement of other living former Presidents not named Donald Trump, garnering support from Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Jimmy Carter and the aforementioned Bill Clinton.
