While sitting in the stands of an NBA Summer League game which was being aired on NBA TV, Clarence Gaines, General Manager Steve Mills and other Knicks executives were caught laughing at the video of Carmelo Anthony working out at 2 a.m. A day later, a reporter asked Gaines about the incident and he angrily responded by saying “Get the f— out of here with that.” Mills politely declined to comment.
Chris Brickley, Anthony’s personal trainer and a former Knicks development coach, posted the video of Melo working out on a soccer field in Manhattan at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday.
The video on Gaines’ cell phone did indeed appear to be the one that went viral of Carmelo Anthony working out on a soccer field. Additionally, the fact that there was no attempt to explain what had become a viral video of them laughing at Anthony says a lot. After playing over six seasons with the New York Knicks, it’s ultimately pernicious that he receives this sort of coarseness, especially from his own front office.
Gaines was the top advisor to Phil Jackson. He was even the Zen Master’s only front office hire. Gaines previously worked under him back in Chicago and despite Jackson being fired, he has remained with the team thus far.
