Michael Myers scares more than just audiences. Apparently, he scares movie studios too. According to Variety, Lionsgate has moved their planned Saw revival/reboot starring Chris Rock up to May 15th, 2020. It was previously scheduled to hit theaters on October 23rd, 2020.
This announcement comes just days after Universal announced two more Halloween films. With one releasing on October 16th, 2020. So, although Halloween is prime real-estate for scary movies, it seems like Lionsgate would rather have Saw releasing with less competition. Though they better watch out for Warner Bros’ animated Scooby-Doo feature, Scoob, releasing the same day.
In the film, Rock will play a detective investigating a series of gruesome murders. Not much is known about the specifics of the plot but, it’s Saw, so everyone probably knows what they’re getting into here. Rock will be joined by Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols, as his character’s partner and a police captain, respectively. Oh, and Samuel L. Jackson is set to play Rock’s father in the film.
The latest installment in the Saw franchise will hit theaters on May 15th, 2020.
