The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Chris Godwin. Both sides worked up to the NFL Franchise Tag Deadline trying to work out a long-term deal, but they failed to do that. Negotiations will likely continue and both sides have yet another deadline to reach a long-term deal. If they do not then Godwin will play next season under the franchise tag for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will not be a free agent this offseason.
Bucs and WR Chris Godwin did not reach a long-term deal today and he now will be tagged, officially, per source.

Chris Godwin has emerged as a top target for the Buccaneers but injuries, including a season-ending one this season, have slowed him down some in his career. In his five-year NFL career, he has caught 342 passes on 482 targets for 4,643 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also has 5 carries for 29 yards and one touchdown in his career. Four of those carries happened this past season for 21 yards and the one touchdown. Godwin is also a one-time Pro Bowler and a one-time Super Bowl Champion.

This locks up a major player for the team, but they still have several decisions to make. Several players are free agents including tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive back Carlton Davis. That being said the biggest decision comes at the quarterback position. Replacing the greatest football player of all time in Tom Brady will be no easy task. Decisions still need to be made during the offseason.
