Chris Brown has reportedly filed a defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample LLC. The GRAMMY Award winner is accusing Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample LLC of “promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment” about him despite “knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalist principles.”
A 2024 documentary, Chris Brown: A History of Violence, is the driving force of the musician’s lawsuit. The 87-minute documentary highlights several incidents in which the Virginia native has been accused of engaging in illegal activities and exhibiting violent tendencies, including punching a woman in the face in 2016 and threatening his ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Most notably, a woman identified as a Jane Doe who unsuccessfully sued Brown for allegedly drugging and assaulting her at a party in 2020.
“Central to the documentary’s narrative is Daisia Chantel Frank, identified as “Jane Doe” in the film. Her false allegations against Mr. Brown were thoroughly discredited in court years ago. Frank is a documented perpetrator of domestic violence with a history that includes physical assault and threats of violence against her romantic partner,” a statement posted to Brown’s Instagram account reads.
“Specific to Mr. Brown, it is evident that any interactions and relationship between him and Ms. Frank were consensual. This is supported by numerous text and voice messages sent by Ms. Frank to Mr. Brown, in which she actively pursued a relationship with him. It is perplexing that these production companies would elevate her discredited claims over the truth established in a court of law. Despite being fully aware of these facts prior to the documentary’s release, Ample, LLC and Warner Brothers chose to amplify her defamatory lies-an outrageous act that not only undermines journalistic integrity but also disrespects the experiences of genuine survivors of intimate partner violence.”
Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample LLC have not yet publicly responded to Brown’s lawsuit. The global star seeks $500 million in damages for the accusations made in the documentary.
