Currently 33 years old, Chris Bosh could still be playing basketball at his highest level if it wasn’t for his career-threatening ailment. More specifically, the second recurrence of a serious blood clotting issue that cut his time with the Miami Heat shorter than expected.
Chris Bosh has now been out of the NBA for over a year and a half and was waived by Miami earlier this past summer in July. Bosh hadn’t played a game since February of 2016 and wasn’t eligible to return the following season due to a failed physical exam sprouting from the blood clotting.
Now, over a year since that failed exam, Bosh held an interview with NBATV in which he discussed his future. When asked what lies next for him, Bosh didn’t rule out anything when it comes to his playing future:
“Probably not coaching. It’s always very interesting. I’m always going to be around the game of basketball. I plan to keep my options open as a player moving forward, but that’s not coaching. Maybe front office work, working with teams and spreading the game, maybe teaching the game to young people, that’s something that’s a very big passion.”
Bosh has always been an intelligent basketball mind so a future in coaching could definitely be in the cards for him. However, it’s still clear Bosh thinks he has something left in the tank and if he works towards maintaining his overall health, he certainly could have some basketball left.
Bosh was an 11-time All-Star and made his biggest mark while serving as the third-wheel to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade during Miami’s multiple championship runs during that era.
Bosh’s lanky frame and ability to spread the floor from either power forward or center position would mesh seamlessly into today’s play style. The lefty is one of the most skilled frontcourt scorers in recent years and his mobility would’ve kept up with many of these new athletic big men.
Bosh boasts solid career per-game averages of 19.2 points per game to go along with 8.5 rebounds in 13 seasons with the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat. Though it remains a serious longshot, hopefully we see Bosh back out there sometime in the future.
