More than two decades ago, Chicken Run hopped on the scene and broke the box office. Earning $224 million, it quickly became the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film to date. Now, it appears that Netflix will take their chances at duplicating the film’s success with a new cast and crew.
Titled Chicken Run: Return of the Nugget, the sequel will feature Zachary Levi as Rocky and Thandiwe Newton as Ginger. Also, Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey will play the role of Rocky and Ginger’s daughter, Molly. Rounding out the cast, Josie Sedgwick-Davies of Hound & the Rabbit, David Bradley of Harry Potter, Romesh Ranganathan of Cinderella and Nick Mohammed of Ted Laso will also appear in the film.
“Set shortly after the death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm in the original, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget sees Ginger having finally found her dream — a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete,” the movie’s synopsis reads, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk — this time, they’re breaking in!”
Chicken Run: Return of the Nugget will begin production this year in preparation for a 2023 release.
