Chance The Rapper is no stranger to the world of reality competition series. Three years ago, he served as a judge on Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow. Now, he’s stepping into the world of broadcast television as he serves as a coach on NBC’s The Voice.
“I’m thrilled to join The Voice as a coach for the next season,” Chance The Rapper shared in a statement.
“I’m excited to help other artists get to the next level and make the most of this life-changing experience. Get ready for #teamchance.”
The Chicago native will step into his new coaching role as The Voice bids farewell to one of the show’s original coaches, Blake Shelton. After 22 seasons with the popular series, Shelton has announced that he will step away from the show after season 23 airs in 2023.
“It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best,” Shelton stated.
“It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.?I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife, Gwen Stefani!?I have to give a huge shoutout to the singers — the ‘Voices’ who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach.”
Rounding out the latest set of changes, NBC has announced that Niall Horan will join the show as a coach in season 23 and Kelly Clarkson will return for season 23 after a brief hiatus.
Season 22 is currently airing and season 23 will debut in the spring.
