Chance The Rapper‘s career has gone through a number of phases. From the 10 Day era to the Acid Rap era to his Coloring Book run, Chance’s public persona has evolved and altered greatly over the past six years. However, one thing has remained consistent about Chance throughout his run. He will always be a part of the community of Chicago and do his best to help the youth in his hometown. Over the years, Chance has spearheaded the #SaveChicago social media campaign, raised $100,000 for Chicago’s Get Schooled Program, created a $2.2 million fund for Chicago Public Schools and so much more. Last night, Chance didn’t raise any money, but he provided teenagers in Chicago with a moment they won’t soon forget.

At last night’s “OpenMike” event organized by Social Works of Chicago and hosted by Chance The Rapper, Donald Glover made a special appearance. Not one to just make a small appearance, Donald Glover gave the youth a special performance of his first #1 hit, “This Is America”. As you can see from the video above, this was definitely one of the highlights of the night and a special surprise that was extremely dope on Glover’s part.
In addition to hosting the open mic that helped him hone his skills as a teenager, Chance is also recording music with the artists that were around him when he was a teenager. In a recent interview, Vic Mensa said, “We got a couple of really dope records; actually, there was a record that me, Chance, and Valee did at one of my cribs in Chicago. That’s my bro, we be linking all the time.” Mensa also added, “That’s my brother through and through…There was times when me and Chano ain’t have bus fare and the Milwaukee Ave. bus ain’t running, so we sleeping sideways in somebody’s abandoned car. I’ve been through a lot of sh*t with Chance.” Mensa and Chance have a long relationship that dates back to their high school dates, but has allegedly had some down moments in recent years. It’s good to see that the two on our better terms and getting back to what they both do best.
