Kevin Love battled through a concussion, a shoulder injury and so much drama but after two years, the dream has been realized. Love is an NBA champion and he’ll always be the guy who crushed beers and chugged them like Stone Cold Steve Austin after the Cleveland Cavaliers captured the 2016 NBA Championship.
The Cavs haven’t even had their championship parade yet and Kevin Love is already back in the trade rumors. His value to the Cavs diminished during the Finals and without Love at his full capabilities, the Cavs found a way to power through. This is far from the idea they had when they traded for him in the summer of 2014.
Boston has been a team long linked to Love and once again, the Celtics are a team rumored to be intrigued by him. And the Cavs appear to be interested in a Celtics wingman.
Brian Windhorst and Zach Lowe of ESPN discussed this on the ‘Lowe Post’ podcast.
“This team did not fit particularly well for playing Golden State, and that’s my fault,” David Griffin said. “But against the East, we were historically good. Now that we’ve experienced this, I’m very confident this group has its best basketball in front of it. They know what they have now.”
“They need to find to get a good wing player or two. The only way you can see is if they make Love available. The Celtics is the trade that has made sense for six months,” said Brian Windhorst. “I happen to know the Cavs really like Avery Bradley and to me, I would want Marcus Smart and I would want one of the draft picks. You’re not getting the high pick obviously, but you want a draft pick.
The reason Love has immense value…is because he’s under contract for three more years at the number he’s at. The Cavs are in a position where they can wait for people to call them. They don’t have to make the move, they can say ‘this is a championship core’ and they can continue to evaluate it. The pressure to do something has been removed. They can sit there and wait to see if a team misses out in free agency and is desperate to make a move.”
