The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to press forward towards gaining some needed assistance as they make their playoff push. Unfortunately, a fan favorite in Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen will be shipped out of town to make room for someone new.
With the emergence of 10-day signee Derrick Williams as viable bench option for the Cavs, and a LeBron James endorsement to go with it, the Cavs are still looking to get that playmaker to help the bench unit. Nothing emerged from their big free agent mini-camp but they just dealt Chris Andersen to the Charlotte Hornets to clear up a roster spot.
The Cavs made the announcement official on their website.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded center Chris Andersen and cash considerations to Charlotte for a protected second round pick, General Manager David Griffin announced on Monday from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Chris Andersen signed with the Cavs over the summer but shortly into the season he suffered a season-ending injury. He appeared in only 12 games this season with averages of 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Dave McMenamin add more info on the deal from the Cavs side while Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports Andersen will be waived.
