A night where there was emotions running crazy in Brooklyn due to LeBron James and some of his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates along with members of the Brooklyn Nets both sporting the “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts in support of Eric Garner and his family. To couple that with celebrity appearances from NBA commissioner Adam Silver to Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia, rapper Jay-Z, pop artist Beyonce, NBA legend Dekimbe Mutumbo and of course the stars of the night, royalty in the form of Prince William and the Duchess Kate Middleton.
King James and the Cleveland Cavaliers turned a close game at the half into a beat-down after Britain’s Prince William and his wife, Kate, grabbed court-side seats alongside Dekimbe Mutumbo to watch them, beat the Brooklyn Nets 110-88.
Kevin Love was at the line shooting free throws when the royal couple emerged from a tunnel surrounded by security with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. Perhaps distracted by the loud roar, Love missed the second, leaving the game tied at 61. From there, the game went downhill for the Nets.
Cavs outscored the Nets 60-39 in the second half and two alley-oops from LeBron James to Tristan Thompson put an exclamation point on the Cavs third quarter.
The bench for the Cavaliers won this game, Dion Waiters came off the bench and scored 26 points, Tristan Thompson had 14 points with 12 rebounds and James Jones had 12 points on 4-5 shooting from three.
Kevin Love led all starters with 19 points and 14 rebounds and LeBron James had 18 points with 7 assists. Kyrie Irving had 7 points and 5 assists and Anderson Varejao had 7 points with 15 rebounds.
Kevin Garnett led all Nets scorers with 14 points, 7 rebounds and Deron Williams had 13 points with 11 assists. Jerome Jordan had 12 points off the bench and Sergey Karasev also joined him off the bench with 11 points. Mirza Teletovic had 11 points but left the game in the third quarter with an injury to his face after he took an elbow from Kevin Love and for some reason, that changed the whole complexion of the game.
Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez missed tonight’s game for the Nets. Cavaliers have won 7 straight games.
Cleveland Cavaliers are 12-7. Brooklyn Nets are 8-11.
