The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently on a nine-game winning streak and look to be back on track after an underwhelming start to the season. One thing that continues to plague the Cleveland is the rash of injuries the team has endured this season. Isaiah Thomas, Derrick Rose, and Tristan Thompson are all currently out with injury.
Dwyane Wade and Iman Shumpert have both missed time with ailments.
The Cavaliers have gotten by without the talented Thompson manning the middle, but competing without a competent big man is somewhat of a tall task. Thompson is expected to be back sometime this season. However, that hasn’t stopped the front office from doing a little bit of window shopping in the meantime.
According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, the Cavaliers are open to swapping the Canadian center for the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan if the opportunity arises.
The question about the chances of trading for Jordan was brought up by a fan who is participating in Vardon’s weekly Q&A column.
Tristan Thompson was great against the Warriors in the Finals two seasons ago, and struggled mightily last year. A league source believes this move, Jordan for Thompson, is one the Cavs would consider.
The fan also wondered if the Cavaliers would be interested in throwing in a first-round draft pick (the Nets’ pick specifically) to sweeten the deal, to which Vardon responded,
How the Brooklyn pick figured in remains to be seen (Cleveland also has its own No. 1 pick), but if the Cavs felt Jordan was the only piece missing for them to take down the Warriors they’d have to consider this.
This season, Cleveland is an average rebounding team statistically. Ranking 18th in the league in offensive rebounds and 20th in defensive rebounds per 100 possessions according to NBA.com.
Jordan is an All-Star center who is having a statistical down year, could thrive in a situation like Cleveland. If Cleveland feels that change of scenery would help all players and organizations involved, it looks as if they won’t hesitate to make that move.
