It’s no secret, when you compare the resume of Carmelo Anthony to other NBA stars, his lacks in comparison to most. Carmelo Anthony’s fellow draftees from 2003, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, all have more championships and have seen much more success in their career. Chris Paul has seen more playoff success and overall team success in his career, Kevin Durant is a former MVP and has gone to the NBA Finals and even Kobe Bryant’s decorated career trumps that of Carmelo.
So as Carmelo hits a new all-time low in his career, with the Knicks heading towards the bottom of the Eastern conference with him healthy in the lineup, Melo reflects on his career and what in the world is going on.
Following from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
The answer was in response to a question about being envious that three of his best friends — LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade — who all play for championship contending teams while the Knicks will likely missed the playoffs for a third straight season.
“I don’t think envy is kind of the right word,” Anthony said Friday morning. “I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong? I should be there.’ There was one point in time where they were looking at me like that. Made (the playoffs) 10, 11 years straight.
“Right now it’s kind of a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of it.”
Carmelo’s career has a bunch of weird blemishes on it. Forcing his way out of Denver could now be looked at as the first bad sign of things to come for Melo. His departure led to the Knicks forefitting assets they still owe to Denver to this day.
It’s troubling to see Melo in such a bad state of mind as of late. He’s proved to be a legit star in the NBA but he will never be remembered amongst the All-Time greats unless a title comes his way soon and that may or may not include a future for the Knicks without Carmelo Anthony.
