On Wednesday, the New York Knicks were officially eliminated from playoff contention. So naturally, that meant more spectacularly tragic quotes from the team to the media.
This time, it came by way of Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks’ star forward raised some eyebrows with his comments after the team’s latest loss to the Miami Heat:
Carmelo: 'I don't even know my role, I don't know my role to be honest'

It’s probably not great news that one of the Knicks’ top players, their franchise star for years, does not know his role five months into the season.
New York’s season began with much fanfare. Adding Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah to the roster was enough for the team itself to believe it could compete for the postseason. Rose literally could not stop calling the Knicks a super team.
Instead, the Knicks have faltered tremendously. Melo has had one of, if not the worst years of his career. Kristaps Porzingis has diminished down the stretch of the season for the second-straight year. Rose has been better than many expected but that’s really not saying much. Noah’s contract is now widely assumed to be the worst in the league, while the center serves a 20-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy.
Something tells me Anthony knows exactly what his role is. But that role hasn’t been enough to turn around one of the most poorly managed franchises in sports. Melo knows his role, but the Knicks’ front office and the team as a whole do not know much else.
