After Carmelo Anthony had a wonderful dinner along with his wife LaLa, Russell Wilson and Kelly Rowland among other guests, he was hounded by the media. With the recent ‘issues’ between Carmelo and the New York Knicks there has been a lot of speculation about Melo’s level of excitement for the young prospect out of Latvia. It appears all is well and Melo has actually started to warm up to Kristaps, despite the reports of displeasure. You might not be able to hear it at first but towards the end of the above video, Melo says he really loves him and will be working out with him soon.
Melo reportedly was upset about the Knicks draft night when they drafted KP and traded away Tim Hardaway Jr to bring in Jerian Grant. Either way, what’s done is done and maybe Carmelo realizes that and appears to be more accepting of the 19-year-old kid who didn’t choose to be picked by the Knicks, the Knicks chose him.
Anthony recently reached out to Porzingis and his older brother said it was a ‘beautiful’ thing for Carmelo to do.
Following from ESPN’s Ian Begley.
Carmelo Anthony reached out to Kristaps Porzingis, the New York Knicks’ first-round draft pick, on Saturday after reports surfaced that the Knicks star was unhappy with the organization’s decision to select the 19-year-old Latvian.
“It was beautiful that a player of that profile can do something like that. It’s great,” Porzingis’ older brother, Janis, said during an appearance on ESPN 98.7 FM’s “The Hahn and Humpty Show.”
Either way you slice it, the Knicks have to make this work. Carmelo is locked in for another four years and Kristaps is the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Both players who can actually play well together offensively are going to have to come together and get used to this.
It’s New York. The city is expecting to win as soon as possible, especially after last season’s debacle. Winning a franchise-low 17 games got them the fourth spot in the NBA Draft so obviously tanking might not be the right answer to the Knicks problems.
