Carmelo Anthony is one of the more divisive NBA players in recent memory. Supremely talented, Anthony has not found team success in the league especially since forcing his way to the New York Knicks.
Anthony has plenty of accomplishments to be proud of, however, the latest being a medal of honor from Baltimore for his services to the community.
Anthony, who is from the Baltimore area, spoke about the award, heightening its importance to him:

Carmelo Anthony says his Medal of Honor from the Baltimore mayor for his service to the city is more important than an Olympic gold medal.

Melo’s priorities have always been unique. He previously turned heads by saying winning Olympic Gold, something he has done three times, is more meaningful than an NBA championship.
But in this case, it shouldn’t be a controversial statement. Anthony has been a philanthropist for a while, contributing to better communities. He has also been an advocate for change in regards to police brutality, particularly against unarmed black men and women, an ongoing issue that has previously caused demonstrations in Baltimore.
Anthony deserves this award and he should be heralded for his work outside of basketball.
