Cardi B has secured yet another bag! This morning, the New York native hopped on social media to let fans know that she will host the 2021 American Music Awards.
“When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited,“ Cardi B said in a statement obtained by Billboard.
“I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage! Thank you to Jesse Collins, ABC and MRC for making this happen.”
With this accomplishment, she joins a select list of rappers to take on such a role with the respected award show. In the past, Will Smith, M.C. Hammer, Queen Latifah, LL Cool J and Pitbull hosted the award show.
It also marks the fifth consecutive year that a woman of color has hosted the award show. In the four previous years, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ciara, and Taraji P. Henson hosted the award show.
“We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host,” American Music Award Executive Producer Jesse Collins added in a statement obtained by Billboard.
“She will excite the viewers, push the limits and deliver a show that will be remembered forever!”
The 2021 American Music Awards are set to take place on November 21 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
