Universal Pictures has pushed back the release of the Nia DaCosta led Candyman reboot for a second time. The film was originally slated to be released in June, but was pushed back to September because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the film is being released on October 16, 2020.
The 2020 reboot of the classic film will star Teyonah Paris, Nathan Stewart-Jarret, Yahya Abdul-Mateen III and Vanessa Williams. Abdul-Mateen II will take on the role of Anthony McCoy, a man who becomes obsessed with the film’s villain. Meanwhile, Parris will play his girlfriend, Brianna Cartwright. Not to mention, Tony Todd will reprise the iconic role of Candyman.

“For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Mateen) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Parris), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials,” Universal writes in the official description.
“With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer (Domingo) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny,” the description continues.
With the delayed release of Candyman, Halloween Kills will be moved from October 16, 2020 to October 15, 2021. Halloween Ends has also been shifted from October 15, 2021 to October 14, 2022.
