Just one day after the Bulls fired Tom Thibodeau they may already have his replacement.
Since the rumors of Thibodeau and the Bulls front office going their separate ways at seasons end, we’ve heard names thrown arond, but the one that has made the most sense was Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Hoiberg will be announced as the Bulls head coach next week before the NBA finals start.
The timing will also give Iowa State the opportunity to search for their replacement so they can get back on track with recruiting.
Hoiberg and Bulls general manager Gar Forman who was an assistant to head coach Tim Floyd at the time, spent time together at Iowa State in Hoiberg’s playing days there.
Hoiberg has been linked to this job for some time and quite a few others which word came out today Hoiberg did interview for the Orlando Magic’s head coaching vacancy before Scott Skiles was given the job.
The Bulls view Hoiberg as a good communicator, creative offensively, and a coach with a very high basketball I.Q. which the Bulls will need a “players coach” if they plan to keep the veterans on the roster satisfied.
Nothing is set in stone, but the likelihood of the Bulls pulling the trigger on hiring Hoiberg is very very likely within the next week.
Hoiberg is recovering from his second open heart procedure which a valve needed to be replaced, and doctors think this will be Hoiberg’s last procedure.
The big question is what players will Hoiberg want to keep for Chicago? The Bulls eliminated from the post-season once again and could see a different roster next season with Jimmy Butler becoming a restricted free agent and the salary of Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose on the books they could change some things up and very soon.
