Kentucky Wildcats freshman forward Bryce Hopkins has announced he is transferring to the Providence Friars. In his first college basketball season, he got limited minutes with the Kentucky Wildcats, and when the season ended he decided fairly quickly to enter the transfer portal. While several schools contacted the former four-star recruit he decided on the Providence Friars on Monday. The hope is with a different program he will get a larger role to showcase his talent and get a fresh start playing college basketball.
Kentucky transfer Bryce Hopkins (@BryceHopkins) has committed to Providence, he tells @On3sports.
“I picked Providence because I feel like I was not only wanted but needed.”
Former four-star prospect.

In just 6.4 minutes per game in his first season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Bryce Hopkins averaged 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 42.9 percent and a three-point percentage of 31.3 percent. His breakout game against the LSU Tigers where he posted 13 points and four rebounds in 16 minutes did not lead to a larger role afterward. It was pretty clear there was not a spot for him to get meaningful minutes on the roster this season.
I LOVE the pickup for Ed Cooley and the Providence Friars of Bryce Hopkins.
Barely played at Kentucky last season, but has a chance to be a high-impact guy in the Big East.

A change of scenery seemed to be the best course of action for the former four-star forward. Now that he is headed to the Big East, Bryce Hopkins should get a larger role with a program that has had some roster turnover this offseason. Providence has some recent success they would like to build on moving forward.
