Philadelphia 76ers President Bryan Colangelo is confident that the team will come to an agreement on a contract extension with Joel Embiid by Oct. 16, he said at a press conference Wednesday:
Colangelo is optimistic that the Sixers and Embiid will find common ground on a contract extension by the Oct.16 deadline.

Embiid probably wants a huge contract, since he’s one of the most talented players in the league. The organization is almost certainly being scared off by his injury history, though; Embiid was drafted in 2014, yet has only played 31 NBA games.
Embiid seems to be progressing fairly well right now, from a health standpoint:
Colangelo says there hasn't been any setbacks for Joel Embiid. They are taking the pk-callout from people, who know best – the doctors.

Colangelo on Embiid: "He will be out there for the first practice and first game, the question is how much."

Embiid was brilliant in the short amount of time he played last season, averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in just 25.4 minutes per game. He even showed off his floor-stretching capability, shooting 36.7 percent from deep on 3.2 three-point attempts per game. The Sixers are a way better team with Embiid healthy and on the floor, and they know it:
Colangelo: " We clearly are a better basketball team and better organization with Joel Embiid …"
