Former San Antonio Spurs forward Bruce Bowen, who won three championships with the franchise, recently made comments on current Spurs star Kawhi Lenaord on a Sirius XM NBA Radio interview:
“First, it was, ‘Well I was misdiagnosed.’ Look here: You got $18 million this year, and you think that they’re trying to rush you? You didn’t play for the most part a full season this year. And you’re the go-to guy, you’re the franchise, and you want to say that they didn’t have your best interest at heart? Are you kidding me?”
Leonard suffered a quad injury prior to the 2017-18 season, which limited the two-time All-Star to just nine games in which he averaged just 16.2 points, 2.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds. Leonard regularly traveled between San Antonio and New York for treatment on the quad before being officially ruled out for the remainder of the season in March.
Bowen is not the first player connected with the Spurs franchise to call out Leonard on how the injury situation was handled, as Spurs point guard Tony Parker said his quad injury was “a hundred times worse” than his teammate’s in March.
Leonard reportedly wants out of the Spurs organization, but the franchise is unwilling to send the superstar to a Western Conference team, despite the forward reportedly being linked to the Los Angeles Lakers.
