Long overdue but a promise made by City Councilman Robert Cornegy to Voletta Wallace is coming to fruition. Over 2 decades since his untimely death, Christopher Wallace aka Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie, is still as impactful in Hip Hop as he was when he was alive. Legendary, iconic, you name it, Biggie is synonomous.
To continue celebrating the life and memory of Biggie a promise by Robert Cornegy is finally happening after years of trying. In a report by New York Daily News; Robert Cornegy had this to say about the upcoming renaming of Crispus Attucks Playground which will take place August 1st or 2nd;
“This honor is very personal to me. Twenty years later, this comes full circle, this renaming of the basketball courts in his honor.”
The renaming of the court in his honor will happen right before the August 5th annual basketball tournament that is held in Biggie’s name at Crispus Attucks. This is a huge accomplishment considering back in 2013, Cornegy tried to get part of St. James Place in Brooklyn to be named after the late great but ran into some issues from the residents due to Biggie’s lyrical content and drug related past.
