The big fish have been caught this summer during NBA’s free agency period. Now it’s time to sign those glue guys. Teams either want a solid veterans who can make a positive locker room presence, a guy who can provide some deep bench help or bring some young guys in for a look in training camp.
In the case of the Brooklyn Nets, they’re looking to bring in some depth to a position that hasn’t been their strongest in years. Point guard.
They have signed former Indiana Pacers guard Donald Sloan to a deal. There are no official dollar amounts yet.
Following from an official Brooklyn Nets Press Release.
The Brooklyn Nets have signed guard Donald Sloan, General Manager Billy King announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
With Sloan joining the squad, it appears that Brooklyn has a small jam at the point guard position. Sloan isn’t the only guy trying to make the team. There’s some competition for the backup guard spot behind Jarrett Jack between Sloan, Shane Larkin and Ryan Boatright.

After Deron Williams and the Nets agreed to a buyout, the team then immediately became Jack’s to control. While Jarrett isn’t a top shelf point guard, he can create his own shot when needed and works well with solid big men in front of him. In Brooklyn, Jack will have just that with Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young.
The 27-year-old guard had his best season as a pro in 2014-15 with Indiana, posting career-highs in games played at 53, starting 21 games, scoring 7.4 points per game, grabbing 2.7 rebounds per game and handing out 3.6 assists per game. Going forward, bringing Sloan on might just be a move that won’t workout for either side. They will give him a look but once training camp is over, he might be hard pressed to find a spot on this team with Shane Larkin already penciled in as the backup point guard.
