For the first time since he faced potentially career-ending foot injury, Brook Lopez will miss an extended period of time with a lower body injury. While it’s not his foot, his ankle is the source of pain for the new Los Angeles Lakers big man acquired over the summer in exchange for D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov.
Lopes suffered an injury in the second quarter of the Lakers 116-114 home loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Following comes from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Brook Lopez, who was injured in the second quarter of last night’s game against the Golden State Warriors, had X-rays last night and an MRI today. Results of the X-rays were negative and the MRI confirmed a moderate ankle sprain in his right ankle. Lopez will be reevaluated in three weeks.
Lopez will be a free agent this upcoming summer after he turns 30. It’s hard to imagine Lopez would rush back to the court after battling a history of lower leg injuries. He’s played at least 72 games in his last three seasons (and four of the last five seasons) with the Brooklyn Nets. His career was a dramatic roller coaster ride from 2011 to 2014 with major foot injuries and an All-Star game appearance squeezed right in the middle.
This season Lopez has played 28 games, and has put up career-low per game averages of 22.8 minutes, 12.8 points and 4.3 rebounds.
