Brandy to receive the Broadcast Music, Inc or, BMI President’s Award during the 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.
The BMI President’s Award celebrates individual songwriters, composers or producers who have made exemplary contributions to the art of music and songwriting with influential status in the entertainment industry. Brandy’s decade-spanning career serves as a prime example of who the BMI President’s Award recognizes.
With this accolade, Brandy joins the ranks of Curtis Mayfield, Ludacris, Toni Braxton and more. BMI’s current President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President Creative (Atlanta), Catherine Brewton serve as hosts for the annual event.
“Her timeless hits about love and heartbreak were anthems to many coming of age during the 90s and secured her place in R&B history,” says Brewton.
The BMI awards highlight the songwriters, producers, music publishers and administrators of the past 35 years including recognition for BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter, Producer, and Publisher of the Year.
BMI also recognizes the Social Star honor. During the 2019 BMI Awards, a songwriter with the most engaged social media fans will receive honors for their digital accomplishments. The winner is found through Instagram, where the photo with the most likes will win. Previous winners include the late Mac Miller, Joey Bada$$ and Kash Doll.
The BMI awards are a private event, taking place August 29 in Atlanta.
