Brandon Huffman will be transferring from the North Carolina Tar Heel basketball program for his final season. The North Carolina big man played limited minutes in his three seasons with Roy Williams and the Tar Heels. North Carolina was historically bad this past season and the junior only played limited minutes despite key injuries at his position. This also frees up a scholarship for North Carolina. The team is still looking at a couple of 2020 recruits and a graduate transfer.
Source confirms to @TheAthleticCBB that UNC’s Brandon Huffman will enter the transfer portal, although Huffman may not actually enter his name until tomorrow. Still, opens up a scholarship for the Tar Heels.@InsideCarolina had it first.

Huffman didn’t play much in a bad and injured season and with two freshmen big men coming in next season there was no clear role for the junior. Garrison Brooks, Armando Bacot, Walker Kessler, Day’Ron Sharpe, Sterling Manley and maybe even walk-on Walker Miller were all ahead of him on the depth chart for next year.
His junior year had him average the most minutes per game of his career at 3.7 minutes. He used those minutes to average 1.3 points and .9 rebounds per game. His field goal percentage was 66.7 percent. There is a good chance he can carve out a solid role with a smaller program in his last year.
North Carolina’s top target to fill the scholarship is 2020 five-star recruit Ziaire Williams. If he decides to stay on the west coast the focus shifts to 2020 four-star recruit Kerwin Walton or Santa Clara transfer Trey Wertz. The three targets are all wing players and North Carolina will try hard to add one of the players to fill out their roster.
