Diaw was selected with the 21st pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He then proceeded to spend time with the Phoenix Suns – where he earned the 2006 Most Improved Player, Charlotte Hornets, San Antonio Spurs – where he played a key role in winning his first and only championship, before ending his NBA career in Utah in 2016-17. Diaw spent last year with Levallois Metropolitans of the LNB Pro A league in France after he was waived by the Jazz.
Diaw was never the star he was touted to become after being drafted in 2003, but played an essential role as a playmaking forward and spark plug throughout his career, putting up averages of 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists over 1064 games in the NBA. His best season in 2006 put on display everything the crafty forward could do, as he averaged 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists with the Suns.
