The Seattle Seahawks have fully entered a new era for the franchise. Star middle linebacker Bobby Wagner has been informed by the team that he has been released. Once he clears waivers he will be free to sign with any team he wants to reach a deal with. The middle linebacker has long been an anchor on the defense but with Russell Wilson gone, it is time for a complete and total rebuild in Seattle.
Seahawks informed eight-time All-Pro and Pro-Bowl LB Bobby Wagner, a franchise icon, that they are releasing him, per source.
Wagner arrived in Seattle on the same 2012 day as Russell Wilson and now leaves the same day, too. End of an era in Seattle.

Bobby Wagner is still a talented middle linebacker and will court plenty of interest from contending NFL teams. The offers he gets should also be fairly lucrative when they start coming in later in the offseason. In 16 games with the team, this past season Wagner recorded 170 combined tackles with 93 solo tackles and three tackles for a loss. He also recorded one interception and one forced fumble on the year.
Seattle saves $16.6 million against its cap by releasing perennial All-Pro LB Bobby Wagner; he will be allowed to sign with another team before free agency begins next week.

With both Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner gone, the Seattle Seahawks have lost their leaders on both offense and defense. They are both also likely the most talented players on their respective sides of the field. Replacing them will not happen overnight and could take years to fully accomplish. It truly is a new era of football with the Seattle Seahawks franchise moving forward.
