When the NBA season concluded last night and the Golden State Warriors were crowned champions, the start of an intriguing offseason commenced. Though they are clearly the best team in the NBA as proved by this previous campaign, the Warriors will have some interesting issues to address this summer.
One of the concerns for the Dubs is the plethora of players that are slated to hit free agency but one thing that can be put to rest is who will be the head coach next season.
While Steve Kerr battled health problems throughout the season and Mike Brown filled in admirably, General Manager Bob Myers says there is no doubt Kerr will resume his head coaching duties next year. Following from ESPN’s Chris Haynes:
Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Steve Kerr will be back to coach the 2017-18 season.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that he will return as the coach of this team,” Myers told ESPN after the Warriors won the NBA championship after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. “I’m confident we’ll have him back. Steve will be our coach.”
Though Myers clarified his standing on the head coach situation, there wasn’t really any doubt that Steve Kerr would be the man in charge next season. During his coaching career, Kerr has done a fantastic job keeping his team in check, even with multiple all-world talents to manage.
After Mike Brown led Golden State to a flawless 13-0 mark in the postseason, Kerr returned from his extended absence which was due to back problems and other health issues. With Kerr leading the Warriors through their final four games, the team went 3-1 but more importantly were able to capture their second championship in the past three years, both of which were under the third-year coach.
Looking forward to next season, Kerr should continue to excel as a head coach and we hope his health concerns are no longer a complication in the future.
