Over the years, Texas has produced a number of great boxing champions, including Jack Johnson and Donald Curry. In recent years, the state has entered into what could be called a Golden Age for the region’s professional boxing scene. Not only are champions like Jermell Charlo, Jermall Charlo and Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez from the Lone Star State, but superstars like Ryan Garcia and Anthony Joshua train in the state of Texas. Among those champions and high-profile fighters, Errol Spence Jr. has made a name for himself in the state of Texas by beating then-champions like Kell Brook and Yodenis Ugas and selling out major venues. Tonight, Spence Jr. dared to be great and challenged Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight title.
Big fights call for big introductions. In one corner, Terence Crawford enlisted the artistic talents of Eminem. In the opposite corner, Spence Jr. paid homage to his home state by calling on rising artist BigXthaPlug to perform his breakout hit, “Texas.”
“See I come from the D where we got shags and we be flexin/If you ain’t from my state then you should know don’t f*ck with Texas,” BigXthaPlug raps as Spence Jr. makes his way into the ring.
If there’s one thing that Spence Jr. is always going to do, it’s represent the state of Texas to the fullest and tonight is no different.
Moment of 'Truth’.
