During a recent episode of Rotation Roundtable, Speedy Morman asked his colleagues, Nyla Symone, Gabe P. and Rob Markman, to assess what state or city has had the most profound impact on Hip-Hop. As expected, most of the crew shifted their thoughts to Atlanta and the state of Georgia. However, special guest and Memphis native Duke Deuce made sure to highlight the state of Tennessee’s impact on the culture. From Memphis to Nashville and beyond, the southern state has brought the sounds Juicy J, DJ Paul, Gangsta Boo, Isaiah Rashad, Young Dolph and many others to the world. Not to mention, there’s an emerging crop of artists like Daisha McBride, Brian Brown, Reaux Marquez and Kaby ready to represent the state in their own way.
Among those emerging artists in Tennessee ready to make his voice heard by millions is the New York-born, Nashville-living Big Trip. This week, the Tennessee Titan made his triumphant return with the Gabriel Eli-produced single, “Just Bein’ Honest.” Pulling from the work of Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, the former baseball star hit a home run with this sonically dynamic track that showcases his ability to switch flows while staying true to his sound.
“I got in my bag on this track and wanted to create something that’s never been heard before. I wanted every bar and every flow to showcase my ability with a unique beat,” he said about his newest track.
“I crafted a vibe anyone can bop to while showing lyricists I can hang with the best.”
