Members of the Biden household mourned the passing of their dog, Champ, over the weekend. The Bidens announced the passing of their 13-year-old German Shepherd while at their home in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday.
“Our hearts are heavy today,” the Bidens wrote.
“Even as Champ’s strength waned in his last months, when we came into a room, he would immediately pull himself up, his tail always wagging, and nuzzle us for an ear scratch or a belly rub. Wherever we were, he wanted to be, and everything was instantly better when he was next to us.”
Champ was the oldest of the family’s two dogs. Raised as a puppy during the Obama administration, Champ was reportedly well known for chasing balls at the Naval Observatory and spending quality time with Joe and Jill Biden’s grandchildren.
Champ leaves behind his younger brother, Major, who lives with the Biden family at the White House. He is 10 years old.
“In our most joyful moments and in our most grief-stricken days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feeling and emotion,” the statement continues.
“We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always.”
