President Joe Biden will not be one of the Democratic candidates listed on the ballot when New Hampshire holds its primary election next year.
Biden’s absence on the ballot in New Hampshire ties back to a primary calendar he proposed himself. Not long ago, the President put forth a calendar proposing when the Democratic National Committee should hold its primary elections in 2024. Most notably, the former Vice President suggested that South Carolina should host the first primary election. His proposal drew a bit of backlash in New Hampshire because state law requires New Hampshire to host the nation’s first primaries. Legislators were unable to adjust this statute and as a result, candidates who run in the primary won’t be awarded delegates by the DNC. Instead, South Carolina will hold the first Democratic Primary of 2024.
While Biden won’t appear on the ballot, it doesn’t appear that his campaign staff or New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman are worried about his support in the state.
“The president looks forward to having his name on New Hampshire’s general election ballot as the nominee of the Democratic Party after officially securing the nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention where he will tirelessly campaign to earn every single vote in the Granite State next November,” Joe Biden’s Campaign Manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, stated, according to CBS News.
“The reality is that Joe Biden will win the NH FITN Primary in January, win renomination in Chicago and will be re-elected next November. NH voters know and trust Joe Biden that’s why he is leading Trump in NH by double digits,” New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley added, according to CBS News.
