President Joe Biden will deliver the 2024 State of the Union on Thursday, March 7, 2024. United States Representative Mike Johnson formally extended an invitation to the President when he shared a letter via X, formerly known as Twitter.
“In this moment of great challenge for our country, it is my solemn duty to extend this invitation for you to address a Joint Session of Congress on Thursday, March 7, 2024, so that you may fulfill your obligation under the U.S. Constitution to report on the state of our union,” the letter reads.
Hours later, the President responded with a concise message.
“Looking forward to it, Mr. Speaker,” he replied.
The 2024 State of the Union could prove to be pivotal for the President as he enters the heat of an election cycle. Currently, Biden is deemed to be the party’s presumptive nominee, but most polls find him running into obstacles in a potential general election against former President Donald Trump.
“I have no problem with the Biden administration and what it has done,” United States Representative Jim Clyburn said.
“My problem is that we have not been able to break through that MAGA wall in order to get to people exactly what this president has done.”
Also, the crowd may look a bit different than it did during the last State of the Union address. Most notably, Kevin McCarthy will no longer sit behind the President as the Speaker of the House. Instead, Mike Johnson will fill the seat once held by McCarthy.
