It’s not often that we get new music from Beyoncé, so we always have to cherish it. This time, the Houston native has packaged her angelic vocals into a beautiful track that will be featured on the soundtrack of King Richard. Starring Will Smith, King Richard follows the story of Richard Williams as guides two of his daughters, Serena and Venus, through Los Angeles and into tennis stardom.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the award-winning singer saw a screening of the film earlier this year and was inspired to join the movie’s soundtrack. As expected, Warner Bros., Will Smith and company were surprised she reached out to join the film’s soundtrack, but quickly accepted the offer.
“The marriage of a movie and a song is a kind of magic that’s unmatched in entertainment,” Smith told Entertainment Weekly.
“I was so happy when Beyoncé called.”
With the release of her latest track, Beyoncé puts herself into position to make history yet again. Her husband, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, recently made key contributions to The Harder They Fall soundtrack. Both Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s theatrical efforts could land them an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Song.” If that happens, the two would become the first couple to compete for the same Academy Award. However, the Academy Awards are still months away. In the meantime, check out “Be Alive” below.
