The Carolina Panthers have hired former New York Giants Head Coach Ben McAdoo to be their new offensive coordinator. While the Panthers likely debated starting with a clean slate next season they ultimately decided to keep Head Coach Matt Rhule under contract. He fired offensive coordinator Joe Brady near the end of the regular season and needed a replacement. They quickly found one in the former Giants Head Coach.

Heading into the offseason the Panthers highlighted the desire to hire an offensive coordinator with plenty of NFL experience. While Ben McAdoo has that experience it calls into question if they wanted experience for the sake of experience. The former Giants Head Coach doesn’t have the best track record calling plays in the NFL. A struggling Panthers’ offense could continue to struggle under his offensive leadership. It is still also unclear if Cam Newton, Sam Darnold, or someone else will be the starting quarterback for the team next year.

The Panthers have been moving in the wrong direction or not moving in any direction since their loss in Super Bowl 50. Ownership has already expressed concern about Head Coach Matt Rhule and a poor showing in 2022 could make this year his final with the Panthers. Ben McAdoo and his offense could be what makes or breaks his tenure with the team. The Panthers will now focus their attention on free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft.
