The drama surrounding whether or not Ben Affleck ‘wants’ to or ‘enjoys’ playing the role of Batman has got a bit ridiculous in my opinion. With the Justice League set to assemble for the first time on-screen this weekend, Ben Affleck sat down in a lengthy interview with USA Today to discuss making the movie itself and his contemplation of putting down the cape and cowl for good. While discussing the upcoming ‘The Batman’ project, which is set to be helmed by Planet of the Apes directer Matt Reeves, Affleck went on to mention that he was still contemplating the movie. This is after, just over a year ago, when Affleck was going through a tough divorce he stated he was indecisive regarding his future as Batman. From USA Today:
The new Batman movie being developed by Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) is “something I’m contemplating,” says Affleck, who originally was tapped to direct. “You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.”
A cool way to segue out of it? Does this guy not know who the Batman is? The thing that really gets me is the fact that it seems he changes his opinion on the matter every 5 minutes. This comes from the person that just before this article released said that his son ‘loved him for playing Batman’ and that his daughters looked up to the Amazonian Princess Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman. I’m just baffled by the way this jumps from side to side. Regardless, Justice League is coming out this weekend and fans will be piling into theatres to watch Affleck and the rest of the superhero team kick-ass. Affleck has received mixed criticism regarding his performance as Batman in the previous DCEU film ‘Batman v Superman’ and that may be a factor to him being so indecisive about the role. Now it comes a time for DC and Warner Brothers to make a decision about Affleck’s role in the future of the DC Universe. The iconic Batman and anything ‘Batman’ related has been the main sell for Warner Brothers, other than Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. How can they replace that without losing the presence of Affleck as the caped crusader.
