Ben Affleck took on a huge responsibility when he signed up to play the Caped Crusader, and fan-favourite superhero Batman, but it seems as if the 44-year old actor wants to hang up the costume. There has been constant back & forth between Affleck and Warner Brothers who are trying to get ready for a rejuvenation of the Batman franchise to begin in 2018, with Affleck set to star and direct the film. However, since the announcement that the film will begin production, Affleck has stepped down as director because he wanted to focus on the acting side of the movie.
Now, with the movie slated to be directed by Matt Reeves, the director behind Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Affleck is reportedly having second thoughts to continuing to portray Batman, after the film. While many thought that the drama surrounding Affleck and the Batman movie would be put aside by this move from Warner Brothers, that seems like it’s far from the case.
According to John Campea of the Collider in a podcast discussing the Batman movie, said that the overall feeling at Warner Brothers is that Affleck ‘wants out’.
‘Over the past 4 days, I’ve talked to 3 separate people, all in some way or another, connected to what’s happening at Warner Brothers. One thing they told me was that, Ben Affleck want’s out. He doesn’t want to be Batman anymore.’
Although this is just a report and it could prove to be false, but it shows an underlying idea. Whenever things start to make sense for Warner Brothers and DC, some kind of set-back occurs that pushes them further back then they even were. If Affleck decides that the Batman film in 2018 will be his last, Warner Brothers will be set back once again. Affleck showed that he can dawn the caped-crusader costume in Batman v Superman, and even received praise for his performance. For the sake of DC fans around the world, let’s hope this news isn’t true.
