Bella Thorne is already a successful author, actress, and a massive social media star. Now, according to Deadline, she’s going to try her hand at directing. The former child star will be making her directorial debut next year with a new thriller from writer Zander Coté.
Unfortunately, the plot of the film is being kept a secret for now so there’s no way to know what to expect there. But, if Thorne’s turn in Netflix’s massively underrated horror/comedy The Babysitter is anything to go by then we’re surely in for something unique. Along with directing, Thorne plans to play a supporting role in the mysterious film. The film is set to be produced by Eric B. Fleischman for Defiant Studios, Maurice Fadida for Kodiak pictures, and David Bernon of Burn Later Productions.
Bernon released a short statement signaling his excitement for the project and teasing what fans can expect from Thorne’s first outing as a director. “We are thrilled to partner with Bella on her feature directing debut. She’s about to leave an indelible mark on the genre, and we can’t wait for audiences to discover her bold vision.”
A former child model turned actress at a young age, Thorne is best known for her role on Disney Channel’s Shake It Up alongside Zendaya. She recently starred in films such as the aforementioned Netflix original, Blended, Assassination Nation, and The DUFF. In recent years, she’s amassed a massive social media following thanks to her transparency and honesty with her fans.
Production on the untitled thriller is expected to begin sometime next summer. No word on a release yet.
