Over the course of his time in the MCU, Thor has been a lot of different things. Unworthy, Worthy, Hero, Stoic, Goofy, and even Fat. For the last ten years, Thor has been desperately searching for his role in the universe and, after Ragnarok, it seemed like he’d found it as the King of Asgard. Then Thanos happened and Thor was lost once again, wallowing in self-pity until the events of Endgame when he received some sage advice from his mother. After the battle with Thanos, Thor gave up his crown to Valkyrie and set off with the Guardians.
Thor will surely fit in great with his new team. Especially after Ragnarok borrowed all the best parts about the Guardians movies for the God of Thunder. The last time we saw the Guardians though, they were turning to dust after the first Snap. Before that, they had just defeated Ego and outrun the Sovereign. Still unknown to them though, Ayesha set a plan in motion to get revenge on them for embarrassing her and the rest of the Sovereign. In one of the many Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credits scenes, Ayesha revealed a pod she created, a pod comic fans will recognize as Adam Warlock’s.
So, Thor and the Guardians will likely be facing Warlock in Vol. 3. In the comics, he has been both an adversary AND a member of the Guardians though, so I’d expect to see him fighting alongside them at some point. That means there’s likely another threat the Guardians and Thor will be dealing with during Vol. 3. Then, there’s also the issue of the MCU’s new Gamora, who Peter was seen running a search for at the end of Endgame. So, the search for her will probably also be a major plot point in the film. With James Gunn back at the helm and a powerful new Guardian in the form of Thor, there’s really no telling what we can expect from Vol. 3. And personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now.
